The short message peer-to-peer protocol (SMPP) is a peer-to-peer protocol that allows you to send and receive short messages. It’s a telecom industry standard for sending and receiving SMS messages between SMS peer organizations like short message service centers (SMSCs).

SMPP is frequently used to allow third parties (such as value-added service providers such as news organizations) to send messages in bulk, but it may also be used for SMS peering.
